Those hot summer days are behind us, but there’s still plenty of time to grab some good eats in Reno.
Whether it’s ice cream or good wings, here are seven places to try in Reno before summer is through.
Ice cream and sweets
Tallinn Creperia
222 Los Altos Pkwy. Suite 108, Sparks
This Estonian-style crepe spot opened this spring, specializing in sweet and savory crepes, fries and Belgium waffles. The lunch menu includes crepes with smoked salmon and cream cheese, turkey or hummus. Sweet crepes include a variety of fruits and fillings, such as Nutella and custard.
Exotic Milkshake Bar
124 W. Second St., Reno
This food concept started its life as a milkshake and taco stand inside the Meadowood Mall in south Reno. This summer they reopened at a new space in Downtown Reno.
This time, Exotic is only doing milkshakes and ice cream scoops in a cup. The menu features about 10 milkshakes, although you can craft your own using a variety of ice creams and toppings.
The frothy beverages are made with Tahoe Creamery ice cream flavors such as Campfire Cookies and Cream, Thin Mint chocolate chip, Beautiful Unicorn and Strawberry Slope Forever.
V’s Churro Bar
299 E. Plumb Ln., Reno
V’s Churro Bar, run by three generations of Piña family women, serves up churro-centric frozen treats that vary from simple to sweetly complex. One of the standard desserts is the $12.95 churro sundae which comes with Fruity Pebbles and gooey syrup, or a variety of other toppings. V’s is one of several food trucks that opened brick-and-mortar eateries inside Reno Public Market earlier this year.

Bars and cafes
Fox Brewery & Pub
124 Wonder St., Reno
What summer experience is complete without outdoor dining and drinking?
That’s where the Fox Brewery & Pub comes in.
Carson City-based Fox Brewery & Pub opened in July inside the former Silver Peak Restaurant & Brewery property in the Midtown area. The two-story building, whose roof deck provides sweeping views of the area, was formerly home to Huntsman Brewing, which was open from September 2021 to May 2022.
Some of Fox’s signature brews include the Seamus O’Faolain Irish-style red ale, Hazy Street New England-style IPA and Buzzed Bee honey blonde ale.
The Fox Brewpub started life as the Firkin and Fox, but ended a franchise agreement with the Canadian-based Firkin Group in 2017, according to Carson Now. Another Firkin property, the Firkin and Wolf in Reno’s Summit shopping center, had a run of a few years before closing in 2016. Skipolini’s Italian restaurant now occupies the site.
Reno Roots Kava
935 N. Virginia St. Suite A, Reno
After a protracted battle to get its signature drink on the menu, Reno Roots opened this spring to introduce kava-based drinks to the community. The cafe is located at a prime spot across from the University of Nevada, Reno and features an array of herbal teas and board games to enjoy.

BBQ, wings and pizza
Maui Jane’s Hawaiian
2900 Clear Acre Ln # P, Reno
Maui Jane’s Hawaiian has garnered a solid reputation for Hawaiian BBQ over the years. Celebrity judges at the 2023 Biggest Little City Wing Fest selected Maui Jane’s for first place. Make sure to grab shaka wings, fish plates or Hawaiian hot dogs before summer’s end.
Longboards Pizza
15425 Wedge Pkwy., Reno
One of several local restaurants that launched a new location this summer in the Meadows Crossing mall is Longboards Pizza, a wood-fired pizza joint started by four friends from Reno in 2017. The new restaurant, which opens to the public on the weekend of Aug. 5, is now the second Longboards in Reno. The other pizzeria is located on Golden Valley Road.
New to this Longboards are 24 self-serving taps for beer and cocktails, which allows customers to pour their own drinks. The new location also offers a fruity frozen rum cocktail called the Wipeout. The space includes indoor and outdoor seating, and can accommodate up to 200 customers.
